Kenji Ishikawa (石川絢士)
Born in Anjo City, Aichi Prefecture but moved to Tokyo after completing early education
Graduated from Nihon University College of Art, Department of Design and worked initially at CBS/Sony Records for graphic design until founding his own design studio “The GARDEN” in 1992 where he continued to do freelance graphic design related for CD covers, advertisements, pamphlets, merchandise and music books and eventually book cover designs for novels
His works are well documented on his own studio's site that offers a variety of examples of his design works throughout his career such as CD cover designs for J-pop/Rock artist Kumiko Yamashita in the 90s or posters for the Progressive Rock concert held in Tokyo in 2016
This book cover features illustration done by Ishikawa depicting a gray human figure in the center, ornate designs in black and white as a border and inner background being various stripes of orange/yellow/pink. There is a small green depiction of a sun rising over clouds in the bottom left corner and a unique typography of the title in both Japanese and English following the shape of the frame on the cover. There is also a full color illustration of a mouth with a tongue sticking out with the number 1 in the center to denote the edition of the book series that is also present in black and white print on the first few inner pages of the book where the contents are located.
